PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One

Now, Throughout BitSummit 2018 at Japan, Inti Creates unveiled Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon. It’s  an 8-bit spinoff title of the prominent KickStarter game Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, and is currently publishing on PC, PS4, PS Vita, 3DS, Switch, and Xbox One later this season.

This 8-bit title is reminiscent of the earliest Castlevania games, also stems out of a stretch target achieved during Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night’s 2015 KickStarter effort. Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon follows Zangetsu, who is on a quest to defeat a powerful demon housed in an treacherous castle.

While the game does play like the earlier titles from the Castlevania series, Bloodstained: all of the Moon sets itself apart with the intriguing ally system. Every time a player defeats a boss, they’ll run into a different character that may be sure to join Zangetsu on his journey. These characters include the whip-wielding Miriam, the alchemist Alfred, also Gebel, who can transform into a bat.

Each ally has different attacks and above all, gyms, so players are more likely to survive a point when they have more allies on their side. There are also ally certain shortcuts and things that only specific characters have access to, with the “easiest” path to get normally being the most difficult to browse through.

The ending of Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is also decided by players’ options when recruiting allies, which provides the game a bunch of replayability. The game also contains Veteran and Casual difficulties. While the Veteran difficulty is significantly tougher and knocks players back every time they get hit by an assault, Casual difficulty is easier, doesn’t feature knockback, and gives players unlimited lives.
