Looks as if we won’t be in a position to play with Shenmue III at 2018, not surprisingly. Now publisher Deep Silver and developer Ys Web made an announcement to confirm that the anticipated 2018 release window is no longer.
Deep Silver stated that the game will get additional polish to the “top criteria it warrants” and a much better release timeframe.
“Deep Silver declared their forthcoming release Shenmue III has been moved and will now release in 2019.
The excess time is going to be used to polish the essence of the game even further, into the high standards it warrants and launch the item at the most effective possible timeframe. “
“To all our backers, we are very sorry for the delay. After much discussion with our partners, Deep Silver, we’ve concluded that stretching the launch will permit us to send Shenmue III at its best. We guarantee to use this opportunity to improve the standard of Shenmue III.
We can’t thank you enough for your enduring support. ”
This is actually the second time that the game is delayed, after the first slip announced in June 2018, nearly exactly one year ago.
To be honest, the tidbit about the “best possible timeframe” for release might also be telling. This season we’re becoming Shenmue I & II from Sega, also it might make little sense for a small programmer like Ys Net to start the third chapter of this series ahead of the younger generations have a chance to check out the first two.
Incidentally, for the interest of full disclosure, the author of the report is one of those original Kickstarter backers of this game.
