Most mystery games aren’t bizarre enough. Sure, challenging new titles like Legend of Solgard seem to shake the match-three formula, however, a great deal of puzzle games wind up focusing solely on mechanics rather than world-building or storyline. While ’s all fine and dandy, it’d be great to find a brand new generation of puzzle games transgress the standard boundaries of mystery games and also push the genre to new, uncharted oceans.

Lucky for me, Felix the Reaper does exactly that.  Developed by Kong Orange, Felix the Reaper is a “romantic humor ” puzzle game in which passing is your protagonist. During the course of the game, players control Felix, essentially a grim reaper, on his different missions to bring death to people. Since Felix isn’t a person, rather, a lowly employee at The Ministry of Death, he could only traverse earth from the shadows. In order to attain his aims, Felix should rotate the sun to control the shadows and browse every level.

Under the veneer of Felix the Reaper‘s inherently black subject matter is really a refreshing sense of levity. Felix is only on earth killing people since he’s appearing to impress his love interest, a girl named Betty who works for the Ministry of Life. Lightening the mood even further, Felix moves around each point by dancing, a skill not often credited to an angel of death.
